29. Awurama Agyapong
Awurama is a young woman tackling music from a practical, performance angle as well as from an academic perspective. She sings and also plays guitar and the seprewa. A graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon with a degree in Music and Theatre Arts, she started singing at a young age. It was when she joined the University Of Ghana Highlife Ensemble in 2018 that she knew she had seriously embraced a medium she truly cherishes. She has since performed with other bands at various venues and events. Artistes she has collaborated with include Atongo Zimba, Kwan Pa, Mohammed Alidu, Legon Palm Wine band, and Seprewa master, Osei Korankye. She has also sung on the same stage with Gyedu Blay Ambolley. Awurama has Highlife songs under her name. These include Anansesem, Dokono Ne Mako, Odo Mframa, and Patriotic Medley.
Currently, an MPhil student pursuing her second degree in Ethnomusicology at the University of Ghana, one of her areas of study is how traditional musical styles like Adenkum and Nnwomkoro can be re-stated in contemporary contexts.
