GH Female Musician Appreciation Month

April is marked in many places around the world as Jazz Appreciation Month. Let’s modify that into a celebration of an appreciation for our local GH female musicians. Today, we celebrate…

28. Becca

Prior to the launch of her debut Sugar album in 2007, Hugh Masekela described singer Becca as a young lady who “has the passion and the voice and still growing.”
She definitely did grow and the passion and the voice have helped her stay visible and relevant. The Sugar collection which included songs like U Lied To Me, Why, I Love You, Hey Baa, Naughty Girl and Ghana, featured Hugh Masekela, Kwabena Kwabena and King Ayisoba. Albums Becca has put out since Sugar include Time For Me (2013), Unveiling (2017) and My Universe (2020). She was the lead act in the Girl Talk show, which targeted an all-female audience, from its inception in 2011 till Efya took over in 2015. Becca indicated at the start of her career that she did not want to be pigeon-holed and has tried to bring different flavours to her songs, some of the best-known being Daa Ke Daa, Woman, Ete Sen, Streets, Push, Forever, Hwe, No Away and Move.
