GH Female Musician Appreciation Month

April is marked in many places around the world as Jazz Appreciation Month. Let’s modify that into a celebration of an appreciation for our local GH female musicians. Today, we celebrate…

27. Irene Logan

A brilliant singer by all standards, Irene first came to public attention in 2006 when she came out tops in the maiden edition of the Stars of the Future singing contest. She and the first runner-up, Efya (then known as Jane Awindor), decided to work together as a duo. They put out an album titled Unveiled.

The first product under her own name was a song called Runaway in 2009 which featured rapper Asem. The piece endeared her further to music lovers. She went on to bring out other tracks like Kabila, My Mind Dey, Akwasi Casanova, Medowo and Conga.

Irene has featured on material by other artistes such as Stonebwoy, Okyeame Kwame, Asem and Trigmatic. She at a point in 2015, had a monthly show at the +233 Jazz Bar & Grill in Accra called Saturday Nite Live with Irene Logan.

Irene transitioned to Gospel music in 2021 and released a track called More. She described it as “a prophetic worship song about purpose and yearning for more of Jesus Christ.”
