13. Ruth Ama Williams
Ruth started getting attention in music circles in Ghana when she participated in the maiden edition of TV3’s Mentor music talent hunt in 2006. She was the favourite of many followers of the programme and they tipped her to win but she came away with the second runner-up position. The exposure from Mentor and later Glo’s X-Factor contest opened some doors for Ruth. She sang with Frank Kissi’s Electric Band as well as Dominic’s Band. She has also done backing vocals for acts such as Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Pat Thomas, Amandzeba, Ofori Amposah, VIP and Rex Omar.
She started giving the public a taste of her real self when she came out in 2019 with her debut single, Home Sweet Home under the name of Simwah. She has in recent times performed with the Hewale Sounds and the West Coast Ebusua Band. She’s working on new material.
“I see music as my joy. That’s where my happiness comes from and it’s important for me to do music,” Ruth says.
