GH Female Musician Appreciation Month

April is marked in many places around the world as Jazz Appreciation Month. Let’s modify that into a celebration of an appreciation for our local GH female musicians. Today, we celebrate…

2. Nana Yaa

She made her first public appearance as a singer in November 1994 at a concert to raise funds for SOS Ghana at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra. She was then managed by the late keyboardist/producer Jon K. There were several projects they had planned to do together but Jon K’’s death in 1999 greatly unsettled her. It took almost a decade after that for her to get back to mainstream singing. Nana Yaa is definitely a delightful, soulful singer never scared of tackling any song her own way. Many remember her endearing duets with Kojo Antwi. She is the daughter of singers Pat Thomas and Lola Everett. Her grandfather, Dick Everett, was a popular singer in Ghana in the 1960s.
